Spatineo partnered with Finnish electricity distribution company Elenia to create a digital service that transforms how grid capacity and project connectivity are communicated.

The result — the Elenia Capacity Map Service — has now been in use for a year and a half, providing clear, up-to-date insights that support faster, more transparent project planning across Elenia’s network area. Since then Spatineo has made new unique maps for other grid companies like KSS Verkko, Järvi-Suomen Energia and latest Porvoon Energia.

One Platform for Transparent Communication

The Capacity Map is designed for business customers and project developers, offering a single, reliable channel to explore available grid capacity and connection opportunities.

Previously, such communication required multiple contacts and manual coordination — now, everything is consolidated into one intuitive, visual tool.

By using Esri ArcGIS Online for data visualisation and Spatineo Monitor for usage analytics, the map offers both performance and insight.

Monitor provides detailed information on how users interact with the Capacity Map — for example, which areas attract attention or whether visitors explore production, consumption, or storage capacities.

This usage data highlights points of interest and can be automatically compiled into monthly reports for grid managers and board members, supporting data-driven service development.

Built on Collaboration and Deep Expertise

The development combined Spatineo’s GIS and digital service expertise with Elenia’s industry knowledge, covering all stages — from data and integration design to UI, platform, and stakeholder collaboration.

Security and usability were core priorities: users can trust the information while enjoying a seamless, map-based experience.
